The Virgin, seated high, raises her veil, and with the other hand supports the Child, who stands erect, his arms outstretched. An archangel, with a book, crouches on the step below, upon which St. Joseph sits at the other side. A fine pyramidal composition, in a beautiful landscape. In the distance, St. Elizabeth leads the young Baptist. Monogram at St. Joseph's feet. Painted for Lorenzo Jacopi. Sold 1605, to the Duke of Mantua, afterwards passed into the possession of Charles I. of England, from whom purchased by D. Alonsa de Cardenas for ,230.
