He started to school at the age of four years. It was in the winter of 1830. He spent that winter with his grandfather, Wallace. Although too young to walk to school through the snow, yet so desirous was he to attend that his uncles carried him there and back. At the age of twelve years he entered Madison College, located at Antrim, Ohio. He remained but a short time.
